FORM . RESIDUE

With FORM . RESIDUE , I look closely at materials we encounter every day but rarely stop to notice.

The exhibition brings together two bodies of work, "Ashma" and "Mrida" —stone and earth. Using acrylic, limestone, earth pigments, and minerals, I translate the colours, surfaces, fragments, and impressions of these materials into abstract paintings.

I am interested in what lies beneath the familiar: the unexpected colours in soil and stone.

These works are an attempt to slow down and see the ordinary differently—to find richness in what is beneath us, around us, and often overlooked.

This exhibition also marks my debut solo show, and I am deeply grateful to INSTINC SPACE for creating opportunities for emerging artists and for supporting practices rooted in experimentation, exploration, and the freedom to embrace uncertainty—and, at times, failure—as part of the process.

I'm Aparna Chakravarty, a multidisciplinary artist based in Singapore, working across painting, ceramics, and mixed media.

My practice explores texture, colour, and materiality through abstraction, often using natural elements like coffee, minerals, and hand-processed earth pigments.My latest body of work is inspired by rocks and earth—the overlooked beauty beneath our feet, shaped over millennia and rich with quiet complexity.I'm excited to share these works in my upcoming solo exhibition at INSTINC Space, September–October 2026.
